📍 Hartwell, GA | Listed: Aug 11, 2021
25L x 35H
The space designated for this mural is on the rear exterior of the building, which is all brick. Due to the building's age, it is quite uneven. The mural space measures approximately 25' wide and is two stories tall (unsure of building height). The mural space will have to work around 1 large 2.5' x 5.5' window and standard sized door. It will be visible from rear street & alley, as well as the urban pocket garden behind the building. The mural space faces South and slightly west.
The building is the old town courthouse, police station, and jail. It has historical significance to the town. Over the past year, the building has been gutted and completely renovated. There are two floors: the upstairs is an open-concept loft studio apartment (potentially to become an AirBnB suite), and the downstairs is a 1,000 sq ft of retail space (potential ice cream shop, wine/charcuteriie bar, bottle shop/tasting room, etc.). The rear of the building opens up into a space that will be transformed into a small urban pocket garden, and the highlight of this space will be the mural.
I am interested in creative ideas that mural artists want to propose to me for this space - as long as it is politically neutral and pays homage to the good of the building's former purpose, and creating a welcoming and inviting space for community members of all types, I'm all ears!
