Osiris Rain for Overtown

Project Details

In 1961, Flip Schulke (Sports Illustrated) captured an up-and-coming black boxer submerged in one of the few desegregated pools in America at a hotel in Overtown. The hotel was torn down to make way for i-95. This became one of the most iconic photos in sports history as 19-year-old named Cassius Clay, trained in a pool because “the water resistance acts just like weight”. The rest is history.
Art Basel sought a mural that would make a bold statement and draw attention to 161 NW 15th Street. WXLLSPACE connected us with Osiris Rain, whose incredible work became one of the festival’s standout pieces. The mural has not only elevated the property’s visibility but also sparked increased engagement, making it a true highlight of the event. For Osiris, painting at Art Basel was a special opportunity, and WXLLSPACE played a crucial role in securing the perfect location for his work. Their seamless support allowed him to focus entirely on his craft, knowing that every logistical detail was handled efficiently. This mural has not only added to Osiris’s legacy as an artist but has also opened doors to future high-profile collaborations, further solidifying his presence in the global art scene.
