Joyful Companionship in Blooming Color

A beagle gazes upward across a bright blue expanse, its brown and white face rendered in precise detail against a building facade in Boulder, Colorado. "Beagle and Flowers" by David Swartz anchors a mural that balances photorealistic portraiture with botanical elements, creating a composition where the dog's upward gaze and the surrounding flora work together structurally.

Pink flowers dominate the lower and side borders of the composition, their trumpet-like petals repeating across the wall in deep magenta and coral tones. The blooms frame the beagle's body, with green stems and leaves grounding them in the composition. Between the flowers and the dog's alert expression, the mural establishes a visual dialogue where neither element fully dominates—the realism of the animal's features contrasts with the stylized, geometric rendering of the petals.

The bright blue background unifies the composition while allowing the warmer tones—the dog's tan coat, the vivid pinks of the flowers, and touches of purple in the fabric at the dog's neck—to emerge with clarity. This color strategy extends the mural's reach across the building's upper edge, making it visible and legible from street level while the horizontal format respects the architecture's horizontal lines.
