Diana “Didi” Contreras is a Peruvian-born, Miami-raised multidisciplinary artist whose work explores femininity, motherhood, cultural identity, and personal transformation. Born in Chiclayo, Peru, and raised in Miami from the age of five, she draws inspiration from the vivid contrasts of both places: Peru’s rich visual traditions and Miami’s tropical color, street culture, and multicultural energy. Didi is driven by a desire to create women who feel powerful, emotionally present, and fully seen. Her paintings and murals often feature expressive female figures surrounded by flowers, animals, and symbolic elements that speak to resilience, beauty, memory, and belonging. Through public art, she also seeks to reflect the character of each community and create moments of connection. Her creative process begins with research, observation, and intuition. She studies the history, people, and visual language connected to a place, then develops sketches that balance storytelling with composition. Working in oil, acrylic, aerosol, collage, and thread, she builds each piece through layered color, loose expressive marks, and realistic details. Her process remains flexible, allowing unexpected textures, gestures, and emotions to guide the final work. Whether painting in the studio or at architectural scale, Didi creates art that feels vibrant, human, and deeply rooted in place.
