Karena Bravo is an Afro-Colombian emerging artist based in New Jersey, working as a mural artist and illustrator. She has extensive experience working on community-based projects in Melbourne, Australia, and is now interested in pur- suing similar work in the USA. She lived in Melbourne for around seven years, where she worked in the hand-painted advertising industry. Her art primarily centers on women of color, especially Black women, with the aim of demystifying- ing the “strong Black woman” stereotype and the exoticism of BIPOC communities. Through her bold use of colour and vibrant patterns, she creates representations of Black women and women of color that highlight their vulnerability and delicacy, connected to nature in magical landscapes where they feel both empowered and safe.
