Nico Cathcart

Nico Cathcart is a Deaf/Hard of Hearing contemporary muralist and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of the human condition, and the intricate balance between the natural and urban worlds. Born in Toronto, Canada, she currently lives in Richmond, Virginia. An active member of Few and Far Women paint crew, her work has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums, and she is a veteran of mural fests around the world.
Cathcart uses her work to engage communities and spark conversations about things that matter. She identifies as a Deaf/ HoH painter, and has painted many pieces highlighting American Sign Language as a communicative tool. He mural “Flower” in South Bend, Indiana is thought to be the largest depiction of a Deaf person in the world. Her March 2025 mural, “Sign of the Times”, a collaboration with the North Carolina School of the Deaf, was honored as one of the 50 Best Murals painted in 2025 by the experts at Street Art Cities.
Cathcart’s murals can be found across the world, transforming public spaces into vibrant canvases that inspire reflection and dialogue in the US and beyond, with recent work in the Czech Republic, Mexico City and Oaxaca. Her work has been awarded the Golden Paint Residency, The Susannah Kelly Art Award, Up Magazines top 40 artists to watch, and she was featured in the book Street art by Women, which highlights the top 50 influential women working in street Art Today. She was honored by the Virginia Museum of History and Culture as an Agent of Change, and her work and biography are part of the permanent collection in the museum.
Cathcart’s murals and paintings can be found across the United States, transforming public spaces into vibrant canvases that inspire reflection and dialogue. She has exhibited widely, including with Modern Eden in San Francisco, Chicago Truborn, Known Gallery in LA, ABV Gallery in Atlanta and many more. Her murals can also be found across the US with many mainstream mural festivals including Plaza Walls, Wide Open Walls, Ontario Mural Fest, Mural Mania, Streetwise Mural Fest, Colfax Canvas, Vibe Mural Fest, A Wall Mural Fest, Wynwood Mural Fest, Few and Far, Newport News Street Museum, Paint Louis, Paint Memphis, Alley Islands, Sea Walls, and many more. Her work can be found in several museums and corporate collections with work with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, Hermitage Museum, Carmax Stadium, Starbucks, Target, Capital One, and many more.
