Alejandra de la Torre
About Alejandra de la Torre
My name is Alejandra de la Torre, I paint murals since 2005, where I started painting them in the streets of Lisbon, because although I am Spanish and normally live in Spain, at that time I lived in Portugal.
I develop my artistic work both in the street and on canvas. I work with different galleries in Europe and I have been fortunate to exhibit in many galleries, museums and art spaces in different parts of the world.
The central theme of my works, usually have a link with memory and memories and above all I am interested in how we relate to the objects around us, as carriers of those memories.
The passage of time, collective memory, objects that are part of the memories of an entire generation...etc, are the basis of my work because I believe that we can talk about many issues from things that are common to most of us and that eventually become a symbol of different generations.
When I work in the street, besides making murals with objects, I am very interested in the use of the hand, as a carrier of these objects and as a storyteller, so it is a very frequent element in my compositions, as well as flowers and birds, where I usually adapt the species to the place where I make the murals.
Finally there are the “portrait” murals, where I usually work mainly with important women in the history of the place where I am going to paint, a little to vindicate their importance in history and that little by little their history is known and they also become referents like many of their male colleagues.
In terms of color, I usually use a colorful and cheerful palette, as I think it is part of my personality and my way of seeing the world.
